Building the system intelligence Australia's housing decisions require

For a healthy housing system that benefits us all.

Well Housed — Where Everyone Wins

Who we are

Well Housed is an independent research organisation working to fill critical blind spots in Australia's housing knowledge.

We help Australia understand what a healthy housing system requires to improve decision-making and the paths forward, so more Australians are well housed.

Well Housed's goal is a healthy housing system with positive social and economic gains built on stability, quality and choice.

What we've learned

Over the past three years we have examined housing systems across the globe to draw on the best international models to shape our work advancing a healthier Australian housing system.

Our work has been informed by world-leading housing experts, economists, and innovative public servants.

Well Housed's research looks forwards, not backwards to address our housing crisis.

What we do

Research

Bring together global evidence and local insight to understand healthy systems, clarify Australia's needs and show where the costs fall.

Analysis and pathways

Identify what Australia's housing system requires, where the blind spots are, and the most viable paths forward.

Evidence

Provide the insight governments, funders and the housing ecosystem need to make clearer, more confident decisions.

Tools

Make the health of the housing system visible – what 'healthy' looks like, where Australia can improve, and which paths forward offer the greatest value.

Why this matters

A healthier housing system benefits everyone.

  • People have real choice in where and how they live
  • Housing developers, investors and others in the housing ecosystem can plan and invest with confidence
  • Communities are stronger and more resilient
  • Governments can enact more constructive policy
  • Governments can stimulate more effective action from the housing ecosystem
  • Australia gains major economic and productivity benefits
  • Australia reduces the substantial economic and social risks created by a fragile housing system
